Diary of a Gay Boy

The Completely Unfiltered Life of a Gay Boy

May 23, 2012

I need to get better about exercising when I am on the road. Rather than working from 8-6, eating dinner for 2 hours and getting back to my hotel room at 8, and booting up my laptop and spend another hour working. I need to get back to my hotel room, put on my shorts and a t-shirt and head down to the gym.

Of course I also need to be better in general about getting onto my bike, or going for a walk, or heading to the gym.

There was a really hot waiter at dinner tonight. I of course spent a lot of the night eyeing him and getting my fair share of hotness. My gaydar was also going off really loudly. I think I am going to have to eat dinner there more often.

Are you supposed to tip hotel house cleaning? I never do, but I always wonder if I should.

5 straight weeks of travel sucks, but finally next week I get a week off to spend at home. Kind of pissed off that I am missing a neighbor’s graduation party tomorrow night because I am stuck in Irvine, CA. But that is the life of a consultant.

I really need to be better about keeping up with writing when I am on the road, but after a long day of work and a 2 hour dinner I just want to shut down, read a book, and go to sleep. Which is what I am going to do right now.

I make it a point not to shop at Target. However, 2-3 times a year I do go because I need something quick. I always go with the intent of getting 1 small thing I need immediately. I never go to Walmart.

There are a few reasons I avoid Target. First is I am still boycotting them over their donations a few years ago. Second, I like to think that I try to support local small businesses, but the truth is I meet most of the needs I would have to go to Target for by ordering it online.

Well tonight was one of those nights that I needed something quick. While I was there I walked through their artwork department and am now mad at myself. I am mad at myself because I supported Target with almost $200 of my money. Granted it was artwork I needed, but as I said earlier I am boycotting Target. Oh well, I will not be going back for another several months.

I guess it is kind of like how I am boycotting Lowe’s but still go there occasionally when Home Depot does not have something I need.

Completely blew my budget today. Although I justified it to myself, the reason really was not that good. I will likely be spending more than a month away from home soon. I also have a rule that I will never use my work computer for personal use.

So considering I will be away from home for more than a month for work, I need a personal laptop to use. I really do not like using my iPad for some things and my personal laptop had a completely dead battery. It does not hold any sort of charge. Plus my personal laptop is heave.

Therefore I bought a MacBook Air today. Was not budgeted for at all. Hence I completely blew my budget. Being a computer geek is really expensive. I now have 5 computers, an iPad, and an iPhone in my house. Pretty soon I am going to have to buy custom insurance just to cover all of my computer equipment.

The problem with working from home is I do not have to shower in the morning. So by noon I feel gross, well more my hair feels gross, and I really stink. But at noon I am eating lunch so I do not get to showering. At about 3 in the afternoon I feel I cannot stand it anymore, but then I remember I am going for a bike ride in a couple hours and will just have to show after that.

No reason to take two showers so close together. Especially since too much showering can actually be bad for you. I remember reading somewhere that even showering once a day is really abrasive on your skin and makes you much more susceptible to cuts and infections. Something with the hot water, and the soap, and the somewhat abrasive wash cloth.

So now I have sat here for 4 hours this afternoon thinking about how badly I need to shower, but cannot do anything about it until I get off work in 40 minutes. I stink.

I hate lazy Saturdays. I woke up this morning with nothing planned for today. And since I had nothing planned I have barely been out of my house. It also does not help that there is a storm blowing in and the high is only in the mid 50s today.

I know there are a bunch of things I should be doing. I should be cleaning my house or catching up on some personal projects, but instead I have been sitting on the couch watching soccer, jacking off, and even spending a couple of hours playing Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

I really need to look at my budget and figure out that I need to cut back on some things. Instead I am writing this and trying to work up the motivation to do something else.

Tonight everyone is reporting that Obama will not sign an executive order to enact a federal contractor ENDA until after the elections if he signs one at all. All of the gay blogs are atwitter with this news, but still say we need to support Obama in the next elections. Whenever I hear this I wonder why?

Why do we keep supporting a party that takes us for granted and does just enough to keep us happy, but not enough that we can get out from under their control? Obama has done just enough to maintain the majority of the gay vote by repealing DADT and stopping the justice department’s defense of DOMA. But we are still under the Democrat’s fingers because we do not have ENDA, we do not have the right to marry, we do not have a lot of the equal rights we deserve.

I argue we should vote against the Democrats to send a message. If you want our support you have to truly support us. Two or three things every four years is not enough, we want it now. By no means am I advocating that we vote Republican. Instead I suggest we pick one of the other independent parties and throw the weight of our community behind that party.

Yes, this will hurt us in the short term as it means the Republicans will gain control. But in the long term I think it sends a message to the Democrats. If you want our vote, you support us completely. If the Democrats are smart they would immediately start fighting full heartedly for full equality to win back our vote.

But I fear many of the loud voices in our community are afraid to do this. They are afraid they may upset the Democrats and lose all of their support. They are also afraid that if the Republicans take control we will roll back to the dark ages. My response? The Democrats need our support and will fight to get us back. This fighting will hinder the Republicans ability to roll back the successes we have made so far. Yes, we will probable lose some of the advances we have made so far, but the short term loss is a long term gain.

April 8, 2012 (Easter)

Since I do not celebrate Easter I went on a hike about 2/3 of the way to Barr Camp this morning. I can see great views very easily in Colorado Springs. Just a short drive and there is some amazing view to see. But the view always looks so much better when you have to work to get to it.

View towards Colorado Springs from Barr Trail

But I did find myself getting really angry during what I was hoping would be a serene hike today. First, but this did not really make me angry there were an incredibly large number of people on the trail. More people than I have ever seen on the trail this morning. Most running down from the top of the incline and getting mad at you if you did not get out of their way fast enough. I was tempted to intentionally be slow getting out of their way, but let courtesy prevail.

What really made me angry was the sheer amount of trash on trail. When you are going into the wilderness you should always practice leave no trace principles. The number one rule in leave no trace is always leave the area cleaner than you found it. If everyone follows leave no trace that would mean that there would be no trash to find on the trail. Unfortunately everywhere you looked there was trash.

I wish the county or the forest service would get strict about littering on the trail. I propose a minimum $1,000 fine or 200 hours of community service penalty for littering. I most get angry when I see littering in the wilderness, but also get mad when I see people intentionally littering anywhere. I think littering is a law that should be strictly enforced everywhere, and should carry an extremely harsh penalty. This is our planet, do not destroy it.
